Because of the heavy rains, the 85th annual Scotia Memorial Day parade is canceled. There is no makeup date. Next year's Memorial Day parade is scheduled for May 21, 2014.

Board of Education adopts 2013-14; also offers retirement incentive to teachers and secretaries in hopes of restoring programs
The Board of Education tonight adopted a $49.1 million spending plan for the 2013-14 school year that increases spending by 2.76 percent and the tax levy by 4.46 percent.
Board members also offered an incentive to retiring teachers and secretaries, a move designed to save money and restore some of the $751,000 in spending cuts made while the budget was being developed over the past six weeks. [MORE]

The Board of Education will NOT close an elementary school in 2013-14 to fill its budget shortfall but will ask the governor and legislative leaders to restore funding that has cost Scotia-Glenville more than $12 million since 2010. [MORE]
Senior Emily Houlihan has been selected as one of two students or "delegates" from New York State to attend the prestigious National Youth Science Camp in West Virginia from June 26 to July 20. [MORE]
High school wins $2,500 FUTP grant
There will be a lot more Zumba, kickboxing, Pilates and other activities at the high school thanks to a $2,500 grant the school received from the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. [MORE]
UPDATE: Of the 12 Odyssey of the Mind teams from Scotia-Glenville who competed on Saturday at Shenendehowa, six of them placed (came in first, second or third) and three of the teams will advance to the state-level competition at Binghamton University on Saturday, March 23. [MORE]

The State Fair musical will be performed by the Drama Club on Friday and Saturday, March 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, March 24, at 2 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students. District seniors are free with a district pass from the District Office.
Senior Haley Stuart, who has played on the
Scotia-Glenville Pipe Band since she was in middle school, was carrying
a pretty big trophy around school for the past few days - the Robert
Smith Air Shield and British Airways Cup - to recognize the band's first
place standing in the World Pipe Band Championship last August.

The Board of Education will hold a special meeting/retreat at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at the District Office, 900 Preddice Parkway, Scotia. There will be no business conducted and no opportunity for public comment. Here is the agenda (PDF).
Once again, Glendaal has received a grant from the Fuel Up To Play 60 program to extend and promote the importance of healthy eating and physical activity at the school. The most recent grant totaled $1,500. [MORE]

nearly 300 students showed spirit and sweat as they worked through
six stations where they "skated" down the hallway on carpet pieces, did

The Board of Education will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12 at the Middle School to consider raising the income levels allowing for a partial school tax exemption for homeowners over age 65. [MORE]
