The Drama Club put on mini-performances of "The Wizard of Oz" at the four elementary schools this week, a preview to the musical's debut at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, in the high school auditorium, Scotia-Glenville High School, Route 147, Scotia.
The cost is $10 for adults and $8 for students.
Senior citizens (district residents over age 65) are admitted at no cost with a Scotia-Glenville Senior Citizen Pass, which is available from the S-G District Office, 382-1215.
Part of the cast traveled to Glendaal and Glen-Worden on Monday and Lincoln and Sacandaga today.
The musical came out in theaters in 1939 and was based on the 1900 children's novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The movie starred Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, and Frank Morgan, not to mention the Munchkins (the little people, not the small donuts).
It featured the trip by Dorothy from her tornado-swept farm town in Kansas to the imaginary world to visit the Wizard of Oz with her misfit friends - The Scarecrow, The Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion - and all of the adventures they have along the trip with the Talking Apple Trees, Wicked Witch of the West and others.
S-G Drama Club Producer/Director Deb May asked Sacandaga students today how many had heard of The Wizard of Oz. In response, virtually every hand shot into the air.
She told the students that they were going to "experience barebones theater...because good theater can be done any place at any time."
