Here is a sampling of the press releases sent by Scotia-Glenville schools to local television stations and newspapers.
They highlight student achievement and inform the community about events happening at your schools.

The most recent releases are at the top.

  • Susan Swartz to meet with parents about full-day kindergarten at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Sacandaga Elementary School. If the weather prevents the meeting, it will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, at Sacnadgag Elemenary.
  • New Science Research Course beginning in 2009-2010 to be discussed on Dec. 2. Next year's sophomores are eligible for this college-credit course. Learn more here.

During the Board of Education's organizational meeting July 14, Margaret Smith was re-elected to a fifth one-year term as president of the Board of Education by a 4-3 vote, defeating Ben Conlon. Gary Normington, entering his third year on the board, was elected vice president by a 5-2 vote over Pam Carbone.

  • These upcoming musical events will be held at S-G High School, Sacandaga Road. Each is free but donations are appreciated.
  • Cabaret Night, Wednesday, March 5, 7-8:30 p.m., B-9 cafeteria, featuring high school musical groups and soloists.

    Scotia-Glenville Pipe Band in Concert, 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 7, auditorium. Free tickets are available by calling 374-6034 or contacting meconnor@earthlink.net

  • Internet Safety –
    A Parent’s Guide to the Internet

    Parent program is scheduled for 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, in A-30 at the HS, Sacandaga Road

The Board of Education will hold a work session to discuss goals at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5 at the District Office. The meeting is open to the public.

Board of Education, administration approve 2007-08 goal strategies

This letter is being mailed to 3,000 homes regarding a Level 2 (moderate risk of reoffense) sex offender living on North Toll Street in Scotia. Here's how to get more information about sex offenders.

Parents and students have been hearing about outbreaks of the MRSA staph infection in recent days. MRSA is being blamed for the death of a high school student in Virginia. There have also been several reports of MRSA at schools in the Capital Region.

Summer program at Lincoln Elementary invites parents to end-of-year productions

Check out the 2007-08 calendar grids. The full calendar will be mailed to Scotia-Glenville homes by the end of August.
2007-08 bus routes will also be included in the calendar.

Guidelines about what children can bring to classroom parties and eat and drink at school will take effect in September. Check it out here.

The proposed budget for 2007-08 was approved tonight, May 15, by a vote of 1,282 to 809 – 61% to 39%.

Margaret Smith was re-elected to the Board of Education with 1,352 votes while newcomer Colleen Benedetto received 1,243 to gain a seat on the board. Jerry Moore received 994 votes. Read more about the budget here.

The Board of Education has created "swing zones" in certain areas in the district to ease enrollment crunches. Incoming kindergarten students with no older siblings are affected when they register; after June 30, any child who registers as a new student in those areas will be affected.
The Board of Education will hold a public forum at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 22, at the Lincoln School to discuss redistricting. Check here to find out more about what the board has discussed so far.
