S-g students recognized for physical education and leadership

May 16, 2011

The following students were honored on May 2 at Hudson Valley Community College's McDonough Sports Complex in Troy at the 26th annual Sandra G. Morley Elementary/MS Leadership Awards ceremony.

More than 650 elementary, middle, and junior high school students, from districts as far north as Warrensburg and as far south as Middleburgh, were honored.

Since 1985, the Capital Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance has been recognizing students for their character, sportsmanship, citizenship and leadership, both inside and outside of the classroom.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The selected student:

demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior, sportsmanship and citizenship.

desires to learn and improve.

exhibits a physically active lifestyle.

demonstrates leadership and is a positive influence on peers.

has contributed toward the total school program.

Students do not necessarily need to be the best athletes, however, they should meet the above criteria.
